Hochfilzen is the Austrian national biathlon and cross country ski centre, which once a year hosts one of the early season biathlon world cups and in 2017 will host the biathlon world championships.
The race starts in St Johann in Tirol, this is a short train ride, 17 minutes away, which on some days we will use to visit the race course. On the day of the race we will look at arranging a local taxi to and from the start.
This week is based in Hochfilzen, which has a large network of ski trails heading out from the village in all direction. In the centre of the village is a well designed teaching and training loop.
Head out on the trials along the valley and the trails become more demanding and technical and have alternative tracks to make for a easy loop back to the village if required.
The village has a very good ski hire and ski shop, situated in the Fair Hotel, which we recommend for the group accommodation.
We recommend that the group book into the Fair Hotel, this is a new hotel very close to the roller ski track and the village centre.
Fly to Salzburg, then a train or bus direct to the village, with the train station within a short walk from the village and the Fair Hotel.
Estimated travel time 1.5 - 2.0 hours, please look at flight options first that will match up with the train or bus times.
Other airport, Munich and Innsbruck, both on the main line to Worgl then change to Hochfilzen.
The Koasalauf's 30K and 46K classic races take place on Saturday 11th. The 30K and 46K skating events are held on Sunday 12th. All races are started in mass format. Click on the maps below for more information.
